Boca Raton, FL (Sports Network) - Greg Gantt dropped in a game-high 23 points
to lead the Florida Atlantic Owls to an 80-59 victory over the Troy Trojans in
a Sun Belt Conference showdown at FAU Arena.
For the Owls (10-9, 5-3 SBC), Stefan Moody added 15 points, Pablo Bertone
finished with 14 and Jackson Trapp chipped in 11 points off the bench.
No starter for the Trojans (7-11, 2-5) finished in double figures as they
were led by their reserves, with Antoine Myers tallying 15 points and Emil
Jones scoring 10.
FAU shot 48.1 percent from the field in the first half, including 4-of-10 from
3-point range, as it took a 32-28 lead into the break. Troy was held to just
39.3 percent on their field goal attempts, although it was good on 3-of-9 from
beyond the arc.
In the second half FAU was red-hot from the floor, connecting on 56.3 percent
of its field goal tries and knocking down an impressive 9-of-14 from 3-point
range. The Trojans shot a respectable 46.7 percent from the field, but missed
all five of their 3-point attempts in the second half. Coming out of the
break, a 17-2 run by the Owls effectively put the game away as FAU was able to
run away with the victory.
The Owls finished the contest shooting 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from beyond the
arc. The Trojans played well down low, outscoring the Owls in the paint,
40-22.
