Cedar City, UT (Sports Network) - Damon Heuir poured in 28 points to lead the
Southern Utah Thunderbirds, who rallied for a 79-67 victory over the
Sacramento State Hornets in Big Sky Conference action at Centrum Arena.
Heuir also had seven rebounds to match seven assists while Jackson Stevenett
added 20 points, six rebounds and a pair of blocks for Southern Utah (8-12,
6-5 Big Sky) which has won three straight. Cal Hanks added 11 points off the
bench as well.
Dylan Garrity netted 18 points off the bench, Mikh McKinney tacked on 17 and
John Dickson provided 14 for Sacramento State (10-9, 5-6) which had won its
previous two games.
The Hornets jumped out to a 39-26 lead at halftime by knocking down 44.4
percent of their shots from the floor including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.
The Thunderbirds lagged behind shooting 37.5 percent.
Southern Utah turned it around in the second half making good on 60 percent of
its shots from, the field while holding Sacramento State to just four field
goals on 17.4 percent shooting.
The Thunderbirds had a 41-26 edge in rebounds in the contest. The Hornets
scored nearly half of their points from the free-throw line, connecting on
31-of-35 shots from the charity stripe.
