Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Marlin Mason had a career night with 22 points
to lead the Cleveland State Vikings to a 77-66 win over the Illinois-Chicago
Flames in a Horizon League showdown at UIC Pavilion.
Charlie Lee registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists for
Cleveland State (11-12, 3-6 HL) which snapped a four-game losing skid.
Junior Lomomba added 13 points while Bryn Forbes had 10 points and eight
rebounds.
Gary Talton finished with 16 points to pace the Flames (14-9, 5-5) while
Daniel Barnes managed 14 points off the bench. Hayden Humes had 12 points and
five assists and Josh Crittle scored 11 points.
CSU jumped out to a 12-4 advantage early on after consecutive baskets by
Forbes. The Vikings shot 83.3 percent at the charity stripe in the first half
and led 34-26 at the break.
The Vikings opened the second half on a 12-2 spurt as four different players
scored during the run. The Flames shot just 33 percent from the floor and,
despite hitting 21-of-23 free throws in the period, never brought the deficit
under six points.
CSU, which turned the ball over 17 times, held a 38-24 rebounding edge.
