Little Rock, AR (Sports Network) - Augustine Rubit registered a double-double
with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the South Alabama Jaguars to a 70-66
victory over the Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans in a Sun Belt Conference clash
at the Jack Stephens Center.
Antoine Allen also notched 17 points as South Alabama (12-9, 9-4 Sun Belt) won
its fourth game in five tries. Mychal Ammons scored 16 points on 6-of-8 from
the floor.
Ben Dillard paced UALR (14-10, 8-5) with 15 points, while Josh Hagins chipped
in 13 points. Will Neighbor had 10 boards, but shot just 3-of-11 from the
field on the night.
The Jaguars hit 44 percent from the floor in the opening period and knocked
down 11-of-13 free throws to take a 36-26 advantage into the locker room.
After just three bench points in the first half, the Trojans' reserves erupted
for 19 second-half points to get them back into the game. Trailing 64-56 with
2:49 remaining, Kemy Osse hit a triple which was followed by a three-point
play by Dillard to bring UALR to within two.
After empty possessions each way, Ammons converted a layup to give the Jaguars
some breathing room. Allen followed with a transition basket to put the game
away after Ammons blocked a Hagins' layup attempt with 42 seconds remaining.
South Alabama improved to 25-19 all-time against UALR.
