Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - John Karhoff scored a game-high 26 points
as the Mavericks of Nebraska Omaha battled back to claim an 85-78 win over the
IUPUI Jaguars in Summit League action.
Alex Welhouse registered a double-double for the Mavericks (9-18, 6-8 Summit)
with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while Justin Simmons and CJ Carter
responded with 18 and 16 points, respectively, as the team snapped a two-game
slide.
The Jaguars (6-20, 1-11) were paced by Mitchell Patton and Sean Esposito with
23 points apiece. Greg Rice chipped in 16 points, six boards and five assists,
followed by Donovan Gibbs who tallied 12 points for a team that squandered a
22-point lead en route to their 10th consecutive setback.
IUPUI shot not only 59.4 percent from the floor in the first half, but also a
staggering 10-of-15 behind the 3-point line as the team moved out to a
commanding 51-34 lead at the break.
In the second half the hosts converted a mere 2-of-12 beyond the arc and
allowed Omaha to make good on 63.0 percent from the floor as the visitors
fought all the way back to capture the thrilling seven-point victory.
In addition to holding a 40-26 advantage on the glass, the Mavericks also
outscored IUPUI at the free-throw line by a 15-4 margin.
