Cape Girardeau, MO (Sports Network) - A.J. Jones recorded a double-double with
11 points as the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks defeated the Eastern
Illinois Panthers, 77-64, in Ohio Valley Conference play at the Show Me
Center.
Jones chipped in 10 rebounds in the Redhawks' (13-13, 5-7 OVC) victory.
Marland Smith recorded a game-high 29 points. Corey Wilford and Tyler Stone
added 14 and 13 points, respectively. Lucas Nutt chipped in five points and 10
assists as Southeast Missouri State won a second consecutive game.
For the Panthers (7-18, 4-8), Alex Austin scored a team-high 16 points.
Sherman Blanford added 11 points and six boards as EIU lost for the second
time in the last three games.
Southeast Missouri State started out the game on an 18-2 run, and never looked
back as it took a 48-23 advantage at the half.
EIU made 17-of-31 from the floor and held the hosts to just 10-of-25 on field
goal attempts, but it was not enough as the Redhawks held on for the 13-point
victory.
Southeast Missouri State made 51.9 percent from the floor including 15-of-26
