San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Matthew Dellavedova tallied 19 points and
seven rebounds to lead the Saint Mary's Gaels to a 74-64 victory over the San
Diego Toreros in a West Coast Conference battle at Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Dellavedova did most of his damage from 3-point range, shooting 5-of-11 from
beyond the arc for Saint Mary's (21-4, 10-1 WCC), which won its ninth straight
game. Brad Waldow made 8-of-9 from the field for 18 points.
For San Diego (13-13, 6-5), Johnny Dee logged 19 points and seven rebounds,
while Chris Anderson stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, six rebounds, five
assists, and four steals. The Toreros had won back-to-back games coming into
the contest.
Saint Mary's opened the game on a 12-2 run, but San Diego clawed its way back
to make its deficit just two, 36-34, heading into halftime.
The Gaels used a 9-0 surge early in the second half to take a 47-37 lead, and
they would never relinquish that advantage down the stretch, leading by as
many as 17 along the way.
Saint Mary's shot 49.1 percent from the field, which included a 12-of-29
showing from 3-point territory. San Diego shot less than 40 percent from the
field on the evening.
