Martin, TN (Sports Network) - Marland Smith scored 22 points, leading three
players with at least 20 points, as the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks
captured a 96-74 win over the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks in Ohio Valley
Conference action at the Elam Center.
Nick Niemczyk added 21 points off the bench, shooting 6-of-7 from the floor,
while Lucas Nutt chipped in 20 points and handed out seven assists for the
Redhawks (14-13, 6-7 OVC) as they won their third game in a row. Nino Johnson
accounted for nine points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots as well.
The Skyhawks (7-18, 4-9) were paced by Terence Smith who scored a game-high 26
points and cleared five rebounds, followed by Mike Liabo with 15 points as UT-
Martin lost for the second time in the last three outings. Before fouling out
Myles Taylor responded with 11 points and a team-best nine boards, while BJ
McLaughlin chipped in 10 points in a mere 11 minutes off the bench.
SEMO scored the first points of the night and never looked back, connecting on
51.7 percent from the floor in the opening half, including a stellar 10-of-16
behind the 3-point line, en route to a 50-30 advantage at the break.
In the second half the visitors made good on 61.5 percent from the field in
order to cruise to the 22-point win.
Defensively, the Redhawks held the hosts to only 37.0 percent accuracy from
the floor and 4-of-20 beyond the arc.
