Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Rod Odom led the way with 19 points and seven
rebounds as the Vanderbilt Commodores downed the Texas A&M Aggies, 63-56, in a
Southeastern Conference tilt at Memorial Gymnasium.
Dai-Jon Parker chipped in 17 points for the Commodores (10-14, 4-8 SEC), who
have won two of their last three games. Josh Henderson added 11 points in 24
minutes off the bench in the victory.
Elston Turner paced Texas A&M (15-10, 5-7) with 14 points on 7-of-19 shooting
from the floor. Ray Turner contributed 10 points while Kourtney Roberson
posted eight points and the same numbers of boards in the Aggies' second loss
in three appearances.
Texas A&M took an early lead by scoring the first seven points of the bout,
but the Commodores recovered from a pair of misses from 3-point range by going
9-of-22 from the field to take a 25-21 lead into halftime.
The Aggies held an 18-10 edge in points in the paint and outscored Vandy,
10-0, in second chance points in the second stanza, but the Commodores never
saw their lead drop below five points as they converted 7-of-15 from beyond
the arc in the final 20 minutes.
The 3-point arc was a big factor in the outcome as Vandy outscored Texas
A&M, 30-9, from distance en route to the seven-point win.
