Morehead, KY (Sports Network) - Isaiah Canaan poured in 35 points as the
Murray State Racers outlasted the Morehead State Eagles for a 106-100 double-
overtime victory in an Ohio Valley Conference thriller at Ellis T. Johnson
Arena.
Ed Daniel contributed 18 points and nine boards for Murray State (19-7, 10-4
OVC), which also received 16 points and six rebounds from Brandon Garrett.
Stacy Wilson added 10 points as the Racers snapped a two-game losing streak.
Milton Chavis paced Morehead State (13-15, 7-7) with 22 points. Bakari Turner
chimed in with 19 points while Kahlil Owens and Devon Atkinson netted 13
points apiece. Atkinson also dealt out 10 assists to register a double-double
and Angelo Warner scored 12 points. The loss ended the Eagles' two-game
winning streak.
The Racers knocked down 48.1 percent of their attempts from the field and
converted 8-of-10 at the free-throw line in the first half to take a 37-30
lead into the intermission. Morehead State attempted five less field goal in
the opening 20 minutes.
Murray State built its lead to as great as 20 points in the second stanza
before the Eagles charged back with a 33-16 run to cut the deficit to three
points with under a minute remaining. Wilson committed a turnover with 20
seconds left that returned possession to Morehead State, which managed to tie
it up at 79 as Turner sank a 3-pointer with seven seconds left in regulation.
Canaan missed a shot from beyond the arc just before the buzzer which sent the
game into overtime.
Morehead State jumped out to a seven-point lead in the first overtime, but the
Racers held the hosts scoreless for 2:44 and Daniel tipped in a Canaan miss
just before the conclusion of the extra session to tie the score at 87 and
force a second overtime.
Murray State scored seven unanswered points to begin the second overtime
period to go on top for good.
Both sides combined to attempt 81 free-throws and committ 45 turnovers. The
Racers scored 41 points off of turnovers to Morehead State's 22 points off of
miscues.
