Northridge, CA (Sports Network) - Alan Williams was unstoppable as he scored
32 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to push the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos to an
83-74 victory over the Cal State Northridge Matadors in a Big West Conference
tilt at The Matadome.
Kyle Boswell also had a strong showing for the Gauchos (8-19, 4-11 Big West)
with 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting off the bench. Michael Bryson and Keegan
Hornbuckle scored 14 and 10 points, respectively, as UCSB snapped a four-game
losing slide.
Josh Greene paced Northridge (13-16, 4-12) with 25 points. Landon Drew got
into the mix with 11 points and Stephen Maxwell pulled down 10 boards for the
Matadors as they dropped their sixth-straight decision.
UCSB shot 41.4 percent from the floor in the opening half, but it finished the
period with one more made field goal after watching the hosts turn the ball
over seven times. Despite attempting six less shots from the floor, the
Matadors took a 31-29 lead into halftime by connecting on 5-of-9 from beyond
the arc.
Drew tallied all 11 of his points in the first half while Greene was held to
four points. Although Greene exploded for 21 points on 6-of-16 shooting from
the field after the break, the Gauchos pulled away as Williams made seven of
his 10 field goal attempts to produce a stellar second half consisting of 24
points and 11 rebounds. All 18 of Boswell's points came in the final 20
minutes during which time UCSB converted 15-of-19 at the charity stripe and
held Northridge to 5-of-18 efficiency from 3-point range.
The Gauchos dominated inside to outscore the hosts, 40-22, in points in the
paint.
