Power forward Tobias Harris told a nationwide cable audience he had signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Tennessee.

Tennessee basketball All-America and ABA great Austin "Red" Robbins died Wednesday in Metairie, La., after a three-and-a-half year battle with cancer. He was 65.

The University of Tennessee's oldest living letterman, Albert E. "Red" Kirk, passed away Saturday at the age of 99. A native of Knoxville and graduate of Knoxville High School, Kirk lettered on the Volunteers men's basketball team from 1932-34, serving as a team captain under coach W.H. Britton in 1934.
Scotty Hopson was deadly from beyond the arc,
hitting four three-pointers in a 16-point effort, and 10th-ranked Tennessee
used a strong second half to beat Austin Peay, 83-54, in its first game of the
2009-10 season.

As the season winds down, the Tennessee volleyball team is geared up for a pair of important SEC showdowns this weekend as Florida and South Carolina will make the trip to Knoxville.

The ESPN Classic in was not a classic in the typical sense of the word, but it was a classic case of a Pat Summitt team playing Lady Vols basketball as they beat Texas Tech, 91-53.

University of Tennessee sophomore basketball player Shekinna Stricklen has been named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week.

Shekinna Stricklen ended up with 25 points and 14 rebounds and No. 8 Tennessee beat No. 7 Baylor 74-65 on Sunday in the State Farm Tip-Off Classic.
Corey Fisher led all scorers with 18 points,
as fifth-ranked Villanova held off 18th-ranked Dayton, 71-65, in the second
round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. Taylor King added 14 points off the
bench, hitting on 4-of-8 three-point attempts, and also grabbed nine
boards. Antonio Pena chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds for Villanova
(4-0), which edged George Mason, 69-68, in first-round action on Thursday.
Scottie Reynolds ended with eight points and five assists in the victory. Luke
Fabrizius had 16 points and nine rebounds in a reserve role for Dayton
(2-1), which edged 21st-ranked Georgia Tech, 63-59, on Thursday. Chris Wright
netted 15 points and Chris Johnson ended with 13 points and five boards.
Evan Turner finished with 26 points, 14
rebounds and six assists, as 15th-ranked Ohio State took a 76-70 win over
No.13 California in the consolation game of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting
Coaches vs. Cancer.

five-game homestand to begin the 2009-10 season, as they welcome the San Jose
State Spartans to Seattle for a non-conference clash from Bank of America
Arena.
The 25th-ranked Maryland Terrapins close
out a season-opening three-game homestand this evening, as they welcome the
New Hampshire Wildcats to the Comcast Center.
The championship game of the 2K Sports Classic
benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer pits the sixth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels
against the dangerous Syracuse Orange.
The second-ranked Michigan State Spartans
host a pair of games this weekend as part of the Legends Classic, beginning
with tonight's affair against the Toledo Rockets.
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits have the
unenviable task of the opening the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands
tonight against the seventh-ranked Purdue Boilermakers. This game represents
the first-ever meeting between the two teams, and both will continue
tournament play through the weekend.
