Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Kansas assistant football coach Carl Torbush
has announced his retirement after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Torbush was recently diagnosed with a low grade of prostate cancer and will
undergo surgery. He is expected to make a full recovery.
A former head coach at Louisiana Tech and North Carolina, Torbush spent one
season on the Kansas staff as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
Torbush had a record of 3-8 in his lone season at Louisiana Tech in 1987, then
joined the North Carolina staff under Mack Brown the following year. He became
the head coach of the Tar Heels after Brown left for Texas before the 1997
Gator Bowl and guided UNC to a record of 17-18.
In addition to his stints as an assistant at North Carolina and Kansas,
Torbush has also served on staffs at Baylor, Southeastern Louisiana, Ole Miss,
Alabama, Texas A&M and Mississippi State.
