Tennessee Vols beat Troy in a down to the wire game on Saturday afternoon at Neyland Stadium
The close game was a surprise, especially against a team that lost last week 6-2 to Florida Atlantic.
Marlin Lane rushed for a tie-breaking 9-yard touchdown with 1:25 remaining. Tennessee rallied to edge Troy 55-48. The game featured 1,439 combined yards in total offense, which is the most ever in a Tennessee football game.
Tennessee (4-5) gained 718 yards, which is the most in school history. Troy compiled 721 yards, which is the most ever by a Tennessee opponent.
Justin Hunter caught nine passes for 181 yards and three touchdowns, setting career highs in the latter two categories. Cordarrelle Patterson caught nine passes for 219 yards and a touchdown.
Deon Anthony threw two touchdown passes, and Shawn Southward ran for two scores for Troy (4-5).
