"Battle at Bristol" gets first corporate sponsor

(WBIR) The "Battle at Bristol" football match-up between UT and Virginia Tech is still nearly two and a half years away, but on Sunday it officially got its first corporate sponsor.

During a press conference in the infield of Bristol Motor Speedway, organizers announced Food City would be a presenting sponsor of the September 2016 game.

Tennessee's Butch Jones and Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer were a part of the announcement and served as the co-grand marshals for Sunday's Food City 500 race.

The agreement fills one of three major sponsorship opportunities and track officials said one other presenting sponsorship and the title sponsorship are being negotiated.

The "Battle at Bristol," scheduled for September 10, 2016, is expected to draw more than 150,000 fans.
