Butch Jones: "Jalen Hurd is back"

A quick injury update on the Vols and two big things they're working on heading into the Alabama game.

KNOXVILLE - Tennessee junior running back Jalen Hurd is expected to play Saturday afternoon against unbeaten Alabama, according to coach Butch Jones.

Hurd did not play in the double-overtime road loss to Texas A&M due to a lower extremity injury.

“Jalen Hurd is back. It was great to have him back,” Jones said. “He’s had a good week of preparation, so we’re excited about that.”

Junior running back Alvin Kamara set a Tennessee record with 312 all-purpose yards against Texas A&M while filling in for Hurd. Sophomore running back John Kelly also eclipsed more than 100 total yards against the Aggies.

Jones said sophomore linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. is a game-time decision for Saturday’s game. Kirkland hasn’t played since the Battle at Bristol on Sept. 10 due to a high ankle sprain.

“He’ll get more extensive practice time today,” Jones said of Kirkland.

Kirkland practiced Tuesday too.

Senior offensive lineman Dylan Wiesman is “very doubtful” for the Alabama game, according to Jones.

Senior linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin, the leading tackler for Tennessee the past two seasons, has no timetable on what he'll do with his future. Reeves-Maybin has missed significant time this season with a shoulder injury, including the last two games against Texas A&M and Georgia.

No. 9 Tennessee (5-1, 2-1 SEC) hasn’t beaten No. 1 Alabama (6-0, 3-0 SEC) since Oct. 21, 2006.

Tennessee hosts Alabama at Neyland Stadium at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday. CBS will broadcast the game.
