Tennessee Volunteers defensive end Derek Barnett won Southeastern Conference defensive lineman of the week for his performance in Saturday’s win over Missouri.
The SEC made the announcement on Monday afternoon.
It marked the third time this season Barnett has won the conference's defensive lineman of the week award. Barnett won the award for his performance in a 49-10 loss to Alabama, and for his performance in a 38-28 win over Florida. Barnett also won SEC defensive player of the week following the Vols' 34-31 win against Georgia.
On Saturday, Barnett recorded six tackles, one sack and one quarterback hurry against Missouri. UT’s defense gave up a school-record 740 total yards against Missouri.
Barnett sacked Missouri quarterback Drew Lock in the third quarter to record his career-best 11th sack of the season. The junior defensive end is the first player in SEC history with three seasons of 10 sacks or more.
On the season, Barnett has 48 tackles (33 solo), 17.0 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, two pass breakups, one interception and a career-high nine quarterback hurries. He is an active candidate for the Rotary Lombardi Award, Chuck Bednarik Award and Ted Hendricks Award.
Barnett has 31 career sacks and is one sack away from tying Reggie White’s Tennessee record of 32.
Tennessee Volunteers career sacks leaders:
