With just 23 days until kickoff against Utah State the Vols hit Haslam Field for day seven of fall camp on Friday.
There was a lot of competition with wide receivers and tight ends squaring off against defensive backs and linebackers in skeleton drills. Nathan Peterman connected on a couple of deep balls for touchdowns with Von Pearson and Virginia transfer Adrian Gamble.
Peterman and Joshua Dobbs were working the skeleton drills while Justin Worley worked with the offensive line and running backs against the defensive front seven in a run game competition. They played nine snaps to determine a winner. It was tied 4-4 and it appeared the defense had won the final snap but Butch Jones declared that Demarya Mixon lined up offside and called for them to replay the down. The offense won the next snap to win the competition much to Butch's delight, though he did lay into the freshman Mixon on the microphone for the mental error.
The Vols will have their first two-a-day practice of the year on Saturday. An early one at Haslam Field at 9 A.M. and a scrimmage at Neyland Stadium in the evening which will be closed to the media. Butch Jones and some players will speak to the media following the scrimmage.
Assistant coaches met with the media on Friday. Hear from offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian, defensive coordinator John Jancek and wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni below.
