govols247: Gaulden plays 'best game' in Vols' win

Vols' nickelback Rashaan Gaulden missed all of last season with a broken foot. Coaches say he played his best game of the year against Georgia.

After making the first two starts of his career last month in Tennessee’s wins over Ohio and Florida, Rashaan Gaulden played well enough Saturday at Georgia to draw high praise from the Vols’ staff.

Coach Butch Jones and first-year defensive coordinator Bob Shoop both agreed Wednesday that Gaulden “played his best game” during Tennessee’s 34-31 win over the Bulldogs at Sanford Stadium, and the ninth-ranked Vols (5-0, 2-0 SEC) hoping he can “build upon that” Saturday at No. 8 Texas A&M (5-0, 3-0 SEC).

Gaulden, who served as Tennessee’s primary nickelback while senior Malik Foremanstarted at cornerback, recorded a season-high eight tackles and a pass breakup against Georgia despite not seeing the field quite as much against Georgia’s offense.
