VFL and radio host Jayson Swain sat down with us Thursday to give us his three keys to Saturday's game to ensure a Tennessee win over the Missouri Tigers.
Key #1 - Pressure on Missouri QB Drew Lock
Jayson Swain: "I'm going to start on the defensive side of the ball and talk about getting pass rush on the quarterback. They push the ball down field. They need time to push the ball down field. Derek Barnett, Corey Vereen has been a menace all season long to opposing quarterbacks. And they need to do the same thing Saturday. Tennessee's defensive backs, they've struggled this year. You get Cam Sutton back, he's knocking off the rust. It always helps when you get pass rush on the quarterback so that's my number one key for the defense."
Key #2 - Joshua Dobbs has a Neyland Stadium finale to remember
Jayson Swain: "When he's on, this offense is on. When he's running the football, it opens up so many opportunities for everyone else. It makes the offensive line look better, it gives multiple holes for the running backs, Kelly and Kamara, and passing the ball, you get safeties creeping up and it really makes it easier for guys like Josh Malone, Jauan Jennings, Tyler Byrd and Josh Smith to get one-on-one coverage on the outside. So it starts with #11. When he plays well, this team has a tremendous shot of putting up a lot of points. And it was the same case last week against Kentucky. And I expect the same thing against Missouri."
Key #3 - Discipline
Jayson Swain: "Turnovers and penalties. It's the only way Missouri can beat Tennessee in this football game. Tennessee is the superior team, more experienced, more talented, with more play-makers. The only way you lose is if you beat yourself. And you beat yourself by turning the ball over and by committing silly penalties that back you up and put you behind the sticks and defensively allow the offense to pick up first downs and move the football. So keep that at a minimum, and Tennessee gets a win easy."
