UT looks for first win of the season against Appalachian State

KNOXVILLE - The Tennessee Volunteers men’s basketball team look for its first win of the season against the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Tuesday night.

Tennessee and Appalachian State both lost their season-opening games over the weekend.

UT’s 82-69 loss to Chattanooga on Friday night snapped second-year Tennessee coach Rick Barnes’ streak of 14 consecutive season-opening wins.

"Even in the game against Chattanooga, and we explained to them, we had the lead in the first half, we weren't winning that game," Barnes said at a news conference on Monday. "We had the lead, but we weren't winning that game because we weren't doing anything that we had practiced."

Freshman guard Jordan Bone scored a team-high 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting in Friday's loss.

"I think he's tough," Barnes said of Bone. "It's my job to get him tougher."

Bone’s point total ranked sixth among offensive outputs by a Vol in his freshman debut.
