Vols lose to Wisconsin in opening game of Maui Invitational

LAHAINA, Hawaii - The Tennessee Volunteers men’s basketball team fell to No. 16 Wisconsin 74-62 on Monday in the opening game of the Maui Invitational.

Badgers senior guard Bronson Koenig scored a game-high 21 points in the win. Senior forward Nigel Hayes had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Wisconsin.

Vols sophomore guard Shembari Phillips led Tennessee (1-2) with 16 points, including 10 in the second half.

Senior guard Robert Hubbs III and junior guard Detrick Mostella had 12 points each. Mostella scored all 12 of his points in the first half.

Tennessee opened the second half on a 12-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 42-40. The Vols trailed by 17 midway through the first half.

UT freshman guard Jordan Bone tried to play through a sore foot injury, but only played seven minutes on Monday.

Tennessee will face No. 13 Oregon in the second round on Tuesday.

Wisconsin (3-1) faces Georgetown in Tuesday's second round after the Hoyas knocked off Oregon.
