A panel of SEC and national media members picked the Tennessee men’s basketball team to finish second to last in the conference’s preseason poll.
The Vols were picked 13th among the 14 SEC teams in the poll, which the SEC office released Wednesday.
Last season, Tennessee finished No. 12 in the conference with a 15-19 overall record (6-12 SEC) in head coach Rick Barnes’ first season with the team.
The Vols return last season's third-leading scorer in Robert Hubbs III, who enters his senior season. Last season, Hubbs averaged 10.6 points and 3.9 rebounds. The media did not select a single Vols player to its preseason All-SEC team.
The panel of media members predicted Kentucky would win the 2017 SEC men’s basketball championship.
The Wildcats are the overall preseason favorite for the 12th time since the 1998-1999 season (Editor’s Note: 19 total seasons including the upcoming 2016-2017 season).
The media selected Arkansas senior forward Moses Kingsley as the SEC’s preseason player of the year.
SEC Basketball Media Days are at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Wednesday and Thursday.
The 2016-2017 season starts Nov. 11. The 2017 SEC men's basketball tournament is scheduled for March 8‐12 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Tennessee has an exhibition game against Division II opponent Slippery Rock on Nov. 3. The Vols open their regular season at Thompson-Boling Arena against Chattanooga on Nov. 11.
