Tennessee honored VFL Peyton Manning as its "legend of the game" before kickoff against Alabama Saturday.
Manning, who starred as the quarterback on Rocky Top from 1994-1997, walked on to the field to thunderous applause. He met his former coach Phillip Fulmer on the field with his children.
The VFL received a framed copy of the Sports Illustrated commemorative issue that came out after his professional retirement earlier in 2016.
Manning, the 1997 Heisman Trophy runner-up, also attended the Vols' Battle at Bristol, where he and Virginia Tech star Bruce Smith participated in the coin toss. Manning also attended the Vols' game at College Station against Texas A&M earlier in October.
Manning played 18 seasons in the NFL and won two Super Bowls, one with the Indianapolis Colts and one with the Denver Broncos.
