Vols have lost seven key players for 2016

Oct. 31, 2016: A look at the seven Vols out for the rest of the football season.

The Tennessee Vols have lost seven total players for the remainder of the 2016 season.

Butch Jones confirmed Monday star running back Jalen Hurd intends to transfer to another school. He also said defensive tackle Shy Tuttle would be out for the season with a knee injury.

"I really feel for that young man," Jones said of Tuttle at his news conference Monday. "He worked so hard to get himself back in the playing condition and worked so hard and diligently in the training room.

"I love him, I love him to death," Jones continued. "It's very unfortunate. It's part of that adversity we talk about in a football season."

The Vols have announced six total losses to the program in the month of October alone, beginning with reports Saturday, Oct. 8 that Jalen Reeves-Maybin would undergo an operation on his shoulder.

Following the Texas A&M game, defensive tackle Danny O'Brien was released from the program for a violation of team rules. The same week, wide receiver Preston Williams informed the program he intended to transfer.

Kahlil McKenzie, filling O'Brien's starting role against Alabama, tore his pectoral muscle while attempting a tackle in the Vols' loss to the Crimson Tide.

Quart'e Sapp tore his ACL on Sept. 17 during the Vols' game against Ohio; he was the first Vol to be declared out for the season.
