Eight local high school football teams advanced to the state semifinals after emerging as victors Friday night. Knoxville's lone Division II-A team remaining in the playoff picture advanced to the state championship game in Cookeville, Tenn.
Maryville took down Blackman in commanding fashion to advance to the state semifinals for the fourteenth straight year. The Rebels held a 35-7 halftime lead and cruised to a 48-28 win over the Blaze. This was the second consecutive year Maryville eliminated Blackman from the playoffs. The Rebels will travel to Oakland to face the undefeated Patriots in the Class 6A semifinals.
Hardin Valley vs. Oakland
Oakland scored 35 unanswered points in the Class 6A quarterfinals to defeat Hardin Valley, 49-7. The win sets up a semifinal matchup between two undefeated teams in Oakland and Maryville. The game will be played on the Patriots' home turf.
South-Doyle bounced back from an 0-10 season last year with a berth in the state semifinals for the first time in school history after knocking off Morristown West, 41-34. The Cherokees rallied from a 21-point deficit and scored the go-ahead touchdown with less than five minutes remaining to advance. South-Doyle will face Farragut in the semifinals next Friday.
Farragut advanced to the state semifinals for the first time since 1995 after a 56-49 double overtime victory over Ooltewah. The Admirals forced overtime after overcoming a 28-point third quarter deficit and stopping the Owls on fourth-and-goal in the second overtime period. Cooper Hardin's go-ahead 5-yard touchdown run put Farragut on top once and for all. The Admirals' win sets up a rematch against South-Doyle in the Class 5A semifinals. Farragut defeated South-Doyle 63-26 in regular season action.
Central extended its winning streak to 10 games and propelled themselves into the state semifinals for the first time since 1999 after defeating Fulton, 20-6. The Bobcats held Fulton to 150 yards of total offense en route to their second win over their region rival this season. Central will travel to Marshall County for a state semifinal matchup.
Two one-loss teams squared off in the Class 3A quarterfinals, but Alcoa held on to 17-14 victory over Elizabethton to keep its state championship hopes alive. The Tornadoes upended the Fighting Cyclones' 11-game win streak en route to the state semifinals where they'll travel to Sequatchie County.
Austin-East's quest for a state title remained in tact after holding on to defeat Happy Valley 20-13 in the Class 2A state quarterfinals. The Roadrunners will travel to Marion County for a state semifinal matchup.
Greenback remained undefeated after a slim 7-point victory over region foe Coalfield Friday night. The 28-21 win marks the second time the Cherokees defeated the Yellow Jackets this season. Greenback overcame a 14-0 deficit to advance to the state semifinals next Friday where it will face South Pittsburg.
Webb vs. St. George's
Webb extended its winning streak to 11 after coming out on top of an offense-laden game against St. George's. The Spartans eliminated the Gryphons with a 69-48 victory and earned a spot in the Division II-A state championship game. They will face Lausanne High School out of Memphis, Tenn.
