Ice Bears knocked out of playoffs, 5-1

Peoria sweeps the Ice Bears in their first round playoff series, eliminating Knoxville with a 5-1 defeat at the Coliseum on Friday night.

It took less than 30 seconds for Peoria to jump ahead of the Ice Bears in Friday night's first round SPHL playoff game. Connor Gorman's one-timer beat rookie goalie Greg Dodds to ligt the lamp 25 seconds into what was a do-or-die game for the Ice Bears.

Mike Craigen pulled Dodds, who finished his college career at Western Ontario in February, after the Ice Bears allowed two goals within the first minute of the second period to make it 4-0 Peoria.

Gorman slapped a loose puck in the right face-off circle past Dodds just 31 seconds into the second. Only 21 seconds later, the Rivermen scored again when an Ice Bear fanned on a pass at the goal line, Jeff Jones capitalized on the mistake a flipped a backhand pass to Justin Hoomaian, who one-timed a wrister through the Dodds' legs to make it 4-0.

Knoxville is eliminated from the playoffs while Peoria moves on to the semifinals.
