The Knoxville Ice Bears announced Monday morning that the contract of Head Coach Mike Craigen will not be renewed for the upcoming 2017-2018 season. A search for his successor will begin immediately.
Craigen was head coach for the Ice Bears for seven seasons, with a 206-151-35 regular season record and a 16-15 playoff record. He is the first person in SPHL history to win a President's Cup Championship as a coach and as a player.
In a statement, Ice Bears President and General Manager Mike Murray thanked Craigen for his commitment to the team, organization and community.
"Mikey has grown tremendously within his first professional coaching job over this time, he is one of the more dynamic people I have had the opportunity to know," said Murray. "I have the utmost respect for him as person on and off the ice and we wish him great success in his future."
The Ice Bears finished this season with a first round exit in the playoffs, losing to the Peoria Rivermen.
