Hey everyone! My name’s Louis Fernandez and I cover sports and news for WBIR. I joined the team in June 2016, and I’m already loving East Tennessee.
I was born in Bellflower, California and lived in Rancho Cucamonga until I was seven. From there, my family moved all the way to North Carolina, and I’ve lived there ever since. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in May 2016 (Go Heels). I studied journalism and history at UNC, working with news and sports in radio and television.
In the summer of 2015, I interned with ESPN in Bristol Connecticut.
I’m doing what I’m doing because I love storytelling. No matter what you do, there are always more stories to tell. As a journalist, I feel like it’s my job to help show you what’s going on, but also inspire you to think critically about the world around you. If I can inform you, show you different perspectives and get you to think, then I’m doing my job. Feel free to tell me if I’m not.
Ultimately, I want to do as much as I can to make the world a better place. Let’s do it.
