DAMASCUS, VA - A Southwest Virginia couple is getting ready for the big game with a special celebration!
The flags are flying and the table is set, waiting for the big game. But this couple from Damascus has a bigger play in mind - a wedding!
The bride is a diehard Virginia Tech Hokies fan. And the groom bleeds orange for his Tennessee Vols.
"I'm a very lucky man to have a woman who we agree on one thing - that's football!" Billy Jones said.
The couple said they watch football together every weekend and try their best to cheer for each other's teams.
It's a love that was sparked when the two teams played in the Chick Fil A bowl in 2009.
"We really had our fun with that and our relationship made it through that," Kristen Jones said. "So we knew if we could make it through that, we could make it through any of them."
So their wedding day became game day.
"When we decided on a date it just fit right in with the Battle at Bristol, so we said this is our kick off!" Kristen said.
The bride walked down the aisle with their 4-year-old son by her side.
And even the minister couldn't resist a little zing at the Tennessee groom.
The Jones' had a replica made of Food City's Battle at Bristol cake. And everyone at the wedding was asked to pick a side. Friends and family wore either maroon or orange.
"We have great friends," Kristen began to say.
"It does outweigh my side though - there's more orange," Billy said.
Everyone is a winner at this wedding, but come Saturday, someone has to lose.
The couple waited in line for 12 hours to get tickets for the big game. So they said they can't wait to watch it - no matter who wins!
