Peyton Manning, Bill Haslam to represent UT at Bristol coin toss

Saturday marks the Battle at Bristol between Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

BRISTOL - Peyton Manning and Gov. Bill Haslam will represent the University of Tennessee in the coin toss at the Battle at Bristol.

Manning attended Thursday night's pregame festivities before the NFL's season opener between the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers.  The five-time NFL MVP led Denver to a win over Carolina in Super Bowl 50 before retiring in March.

The former Vols quarterback carried out the Vince Lombardi Trophy onto Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver during the pregame, and joined NBC announcers Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth in the second half.

Manning played 17 seasons in the NFL, and played at UT from 1994-1997.

Prior to his gubernational career, Haslam served as the mayor of Knoxville for two terms from 2003-2011.

Kickoff for the Battle at Bristol between Tennessee and Virginia Tech is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET Saturday, and ABC will broadcast the game.
