Olympic medalists, nation's top swimmers compete in Knoxville

(WBIR) Several Olympic gold medalists will compete alongside hometown favorites this weekend in East Tennessee.

It's part of USA Swimming's 2013 Winter National Championships being held at the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Aquatic Center from December 5-7.

Some gold medalists scheduled to compete include: Missy Franklin, Katie Ledecky, Natalie Coughlin, Nathan Adrian, Matt Grevers, and Cullen Jones.

East Tennessee will be well-represented during the meet with Olympic gold medalist and Lenoir City-native Claire Donahue, National Team member Molly Hannis, and Tennessee Aquatics' Bryar Long and Brad Craig set to participate.

The Winter National Championships is also a rare chance for NCAA athletes to compete alongside Team USA athletes. USA Swimming says almost 40 U.S. National Team members are expected to swim at the three-day event in Knoxville.

Each day will feature preliminary heats in the morning beginning at 9 a.m, with finals later each afternoon starting at 5 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at the door throughout the meet. Daily tickets (which includes entrance to both the prelims and finals sessions for one day) are $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under and Seniors (60+). Single session tickets (either for prelims or finals) are $15 for adults and $5 for children and Seniors.

A live webcast of each session will also be available on usaswimming.org..

You can watch coverage of the meet from NBC airing on WBIR on Saturday, December 21 from 5-6 p.m. ET.
