After the USA Today Defensive Player of the Week poll came down to the final minutes and two votes separating the top two contenders, Hunter Lane from Gibbs was able to clinch Week 8's title.
Lane had 14 tackles. Included in these tackles was three sacks and four tackles for loss.
Out of all of Lane's tackles, there was one that really stood out to him. "It was really memorable when I made my first sack. So that kind of just started everything for me. I just get excited after my first tackle and then just go from there," said Lane.
However, Head Coach Brad Conley was impressed by the junior's entire game. "Let me just tell you. When you sack the quarterback as many times as he did last Thursday night, they all just kind of run together. I just remember Hunter coming in there and putting pressure on the quarterback. Not only did his quarterback sacks help us, but the pressure that he and the other defensive linemen got on the quarterback led to five interceptions in the secondary as well. The defensive line and Hunter especially did a really good job of getting pressure on the quarterback," said Conley.
