VOTE: Week 3 PrepXtra players of the week

It's time to vote for the PrepXtra Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for Week 3 of the high school football season.  Poll closes Wednesday at noon.


The winners will be featured on WBIR Channel 10 at six o'clock and 11 o'clock on Thursday.


Offensive nominees:

Justin Howard, Northview Academy:  Junior quarterback accounted for 299 yards and five touchdowns in a 36-29 breakthrough victory over Pigeon Forge. He ran 24 times for 152 yards and three TDs and was 7 of 14 passing for 147 yards and two scores.

Jackson Long, McMinn Central: Senior running back rushed for 286 yards on 19 carries, including TD runs of 54, 76 and 64 yards. He also caught a pass for 40 yards in a 23-21 win over Kingston.

Austin Myrick, William Blount: Senior quarterback had a hand in four touchdowns in a 37-28 win over Dobyns-Bennett. He was 18-for-27 passing for 268 yards and two TDS and rushed 12 times for 50 yards and two scores.

Kayne Roberts, Greenback: Senior running back rushed for 249 yards and five touchdowns on just 17 carries in a 48-10 win over Oneida. 

Defensive nominees:

Robert Allen, Austin East: Sophomore linebacker made 15 tackles, including two for loss, in a 55-0 win over Tellico Plains. Also forced a fumble and returned an interception 37 yards for a touchdown.

K.J. Jefferson, West: Senior linebacker had 16 tackles, including three for loss and a sack, in a 13-9 win over Halls. His key stop inside the West 10-yard line in the final minutes helped the Rebels secure the victory.

Rook Landers, Hardin Valley: Senior  had 12 tackles, including two for loss and one sack, in a blowout win over Bearden. He also returned an interception 28 yards for a touchdown.


Jeffery Wood, Catholic: Senior running back/defensive back intercepted two passes, returning one 32 yards for a touchdown, in a 49-19 win over Central. Also had seven tackles – one for loss – and four pass breakups.
