Kashif Warren Jr. of Austin-East and Landon Reese of Campbell Co. won the PrepXtra Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
Warren Jr., a senior, racked up 127 yards and two touchdowns in the Roadrunners' huge win against Fulton. He said his work ethic in practice helped his team.
"I came out ready to play knowing Fulton was a good team," Warren said. "So in practice i was going three hundred, three hundred percent, making sure that no mistakes were made and I was on my A game."
"He practices hard every single day," coach Jeff Phillips said. "I think that's what makes him one of the greats in high school football right now. We told him all week that big time players are going to make big time plays in big time games. And for him to go out there and get two touchdowns, 127 yards receiving. I think any receiver will take that type of game and realize that I had a pretty good game against a good team."
Landon Reese plays defensive back and wide receiver for the Campbell Co. Cougars. He had 12 tackles and a blocked extra point as well as two touchdowns on offense in their win. He helped the Cougars get to their first 4-0 start in school history, and coach Matt Price said it came at the right time.
"It was out in the community that it was our first chance to be 4-0 and I think sometimes your best players step up in big games," Price said. "Landon did a great job Friday for us and has in the past, he wasn't the only one, but 12 tackles on defense, two big crucial touchdowns to start the game and end the game so that was exciting for him."
"It was a great honor to be able to make history like that and to be able to make the team win," Reese said.
