Preview: South-Doyle vs. Farragut semifinal matchup

KNOXVILLE: - The South-Doyle Cherokees and Farragut Admirals will square off in a state semifinal matchup on Friday.

For both teams, this game has been a long time coming.

Friday's matchup will be the Cherokees' first ever semifinal appearance, and the Admirals' first appearance in current head coach Eddie Courtney's 20 year tenure with the program.

It has also been a story of comebacks for both teams.

South-Doyle punched their ticket to the semis after posting a comeback performance against Morristown West in quarterfinals. The Cherokees found themselves down 28-7 in the first half.

They've also made school history after a winless season just last year.

Head coach Clark Duncan gives credit to the seniors for the program's turnaround, "I think it's just our mindset. our seniors came in in the winter and said we're going to get this fixed and we're not going to let this happen to us again."

Farragut's comeback came after they scored 28 second-half points against Ooltewah in a double overtime quarterfinal win.

Head Coach Eddie Courtney called it one of the program's best comebacks, "We have a choice to do what we're going to do in the second half. Either we can take our pads up on Monday or we come out here and fight back to win this game and it be one of the best comebacks we've had here. And that's what they did, they answered the bell."

The two schools faced each other in Week 10 and Farragut came out on top 63-26.

Friday's semifinal matchup will be at Farragut at 7 p.m.
