Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Yankees have agreed to terms on a
non-guaranteed contract with pitcher Joba Chamberlain for the 2013 season, the
team announced on Thursday.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Chamberlain earned $1.675 million during a 2012 campaign in which he was
limited to just 22 appearances due to recovery from Tommy John surgery as well
as a procedure to repair a dislocated ankle back in March. The right-hander
recorded a 4.35 earned run average and struck out 22 batters over a combined
20 2/3 innings.
The arbitration-eligible 27-year-old has gone 21-13 with a 3.73 ERA over 215
career games -- all but 43 of which have come in relief -- over his six
seasons with the Yankees.
