Lake Buena Vista, FL (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired
veteran infielder John McDonald from the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team
announced on Wednesday.
In exchange for McDonald, the Diamondbacks will receive a player to be named
or cash considerations.
Pittsburgh is in need of an infielder after Chase d'Arnaud had surgery to
repair a partially torn ligament in his left thumb on Monday after he appeared
to be making a case to join the Pirates on Opening Day.
McDonald, 38, batted .249 last season with Arizona and had six homers to go
along with 22 RBI over 70 games played. He has stints with Cleveland
(1999-2004), Toronto (2005-2011), Detroit (2005) and Arizona for the last two
seasons.
