Hartford, CT (Sports Network) - Jason Kidd hit a go-ahead jumper with 1:47
remaining in overtime as the New York Knicks spoiled the Boston Celtics'
2012-13 preseason opener with a 98-95 win at the XL Center.
Carmelo Anthony netted a game-high 23 points and Chris Copeland delivered 21
off the bench as the Knicks improved to 2-0 in preseason play. New York posted
a 108-101 victory at Washington on Thursday.
Kidd's 23-foot jumper gave the Knicks a 94-93 lead, and the veteran point
guard sank two free throws shortly afterward to extend the margin to three.
Boston closed within 96-95 on two Kris Joseph foul shots with 47 seconds left
in overtime, but Copeland made two free throws on the other end to seal the
win.
The Knicks owned an 86-83 edge with two minutes left in the fourth quarter,
but Micah Downs scored for Boston with 1:29 remaining to cut the deficit to
one.
The Celtics had a chance to move ahead in the final stages of regulation, but
Jared Sullinger made only 1-of-2 foul shots with 16 seconds left to forge an
86-86 tie.
Sullinger paced Boston with 14 points, with Paul Pierce and Jeff Green each
contributing 12 in the loss.
