New York, NY (Sports Network) - Indiana's Tamika Catchings and Los Angeles'
Candace Parker have been named the WNBA's Eastern and Western Conference
players of the week, respectively, for games played May 18-27.
Catchings, the reigning MVP, picked up her 15th player of the week award. She
led the Fever to a 3-0 record for the opening week of the season by averaging
21 points and 7.3 rebounds.
Parker, who won the award for a sixth time, led her team to a 3-1 mark for the
week. She led the league in blocks (2.7 bpg), ranked third in the Western
Conference in scoring (20.5 ppg), and tied for third in rebounds (7.8 rpg).
Other candidates for the weekly award were Atlanta's Angel McCoughtry,
Chicago's Sylvia Fowles, Connecticut's Tina Charles, and Washington's Crystal
Langhorne in the East, as well as Minnesota's Seimone Augustus, Phoenix's
Candice Dupree, San Antonio's Shameka Christon, and Tulsa's Ivory Latta in the
West.
