Even though Tennessee has lost to Vanderbilt in recent years, falling to the Commodores in 2012 and 2013, this year's loss will have bigger implications for their football program. Here are a few streaks to put the magnitude of the loss into perspective.
The Vols were previously 38-0 as an AP-ranked team against an unranked Vanderbilt team. When they've been ranked, they've been undefeated against the Commodores, until Saturday night.
Saturday's loss was the first time a Tennessee team has won eight games or more and lost to Vandy since 1926.
Vanderbilt's 45 points are the most they've scored in an any SEC matchup since 1971. That's also the most points they've scored against Tennessee since 1923 when they won 51-7.
Lastly, Tennessee's defense gave up 45 points to the 115th ranked team in scoring offense out of 128 FBS teams.
Tennessee head coach Butch Jones and his staff are already switching gears toward recruiting future Volunteers and fans can only hope a loss like this won't happen again in the future.
