Smokies dominate Barons in 6-0 win

Smokies explode in the bottom of the second, go on to shutout Barons.

KODAK - On Dollar Dog Night, the Smokies gave fans their money's worth early on.

Things weren't looking good in the bottom of the second inning. The Smokies had two outs and no runners on base, but then came an offensive explosion. Jason Volser makes his way to second base on a double. Carlos Penalver sends him home on an RBI triple. Roberto Caro sends Penalver home on an RBI single. Charcer Burks gets in on the action with an RBI double and after stealing third, Jeffrey Baez sends Burks home. Four runs on four straight at bats.

The Tennessee pitching staff played well on Monday. Zach Hedges got the start and the win, going 5.2 innings, giving up 7 hits and no runs, with two strikeouts. It's the first shutout of the season for the Smokies.

The team improves to 5-6 on the season. The series against the Barons continues on Tuesday and Wednesday at Smokies Stadium.
