KODAK, TENN. - Tennessee Smokies fans trusted their instincts Saturday night to break through a single-night attendance record set in 2016.
Jedi Knights, intergalactic bounty hunters, wookies and more showed up by the thousands for Star Wars night at the stadium, shattering last year's record of 7,902 in attendance by more than 50 fans for a new record of 7,958.
It appears the Dark Side can't stop that record from breaking, as the 2016 record-setting crowd also happened on Star Wars night.
Unfortunately, the Force was not as strong with the team Saturday. The Smokies would end up dropping the match to the Montgomery Biscuits 3-1.
"Do. Or do not. There is no try," as Yoda would say. It's still very early in this 5-game series, so perhaps this is just the rough start before the redemption à la "Return of the Jedi."
