Carson-Newman soccer advances to first-ever NCAA Championship game

EVANS, Ga. (WBIR) -- The Carson-Newman men's soccer team advanced to its first ever NCAA D2 national championship game with a semifinal win on Thursday.

The Eagles defeated Simon Fraser, 3-2 in the program's first trip to the semifinals.

They will face Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday at 3 p.m., in Evans, which is outside of Augusta.

Simon Fraser took a 1-0 lead at the half, but a goal by Joao pedro Dowsley in the 89th minute broke a 2-2 tie, and the Eagles held on for the win.

Ross Frame and Sindro Welo also scored for Carson-Newman.
