Tucked away in the mountain town of Banner Elk, North Carolina is a little known theme park called Land of Oz. Opened in 1970, the park was designed after the timeless classic, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum.
After operating for about 10 years, the park closed. In 1993, the park was reopened once a year for festival called Autumn at Oz.
Much like the original story, the festival has become a time honored event for many. Twenty years after the first festival, close to 6,000 tickets were sold to the event.
We decided to take our own tour of the yellow brick road.
