Across East Tennessee and the nation, America is losing its World War II veterans at rate of one every two minutes.

That figure comes from report by the US Veterans Administration listed on The National WWII Museum website. It estimates 600 veterans of World War II die every day across the country.

Leaders at American Legion Post 2 in Knoxville say they lose at least two WWII veterans each month.

"They are the most faithful ones about coming. They are the most community and service oriented. Duty and loyalty are big to them," said Leland Price, 'Immediate Past Commander' of American Legion Post 2.

Price noted WWII veterans used to make up the bulk of the membership in Post 2 and now that figure is closer to 15 percent.

"It is inevitable but it is still something we see and we hate to see it," said Mr. Price.

By the year 2036, the federal government estimates all of the veterans who survived WWII will be gone.
