An area business opened its doors to some new employees on Thursday, in hopes of opening the minds of people who think people with disabilities can't work.
Penn Station East Coast Subs invited members of Open Door Tennessee to work for $7.25 an hour, with the possibility of being hired permanently.
Open Door Tennessee works to provide opportunities for people with special needs.
The founder says it's important to show what they can offer the community.
"The opportunities are there for our kids to come into a place like this and gain the experience. Most of the time they just spend the summers staying at home trying to find activities or things to do with their family to fill their time and to have a job is just an incredible opportunity," said Open Doors Director Steve Johnson.
On Thursday, 10% of all sales at all 3 Penn Station locations in Knoxville will go to Open Doors Tennessee.
