That couple may never know two things. They paid the bill for a retirement home resident enjoying a meal with her daughter. They also made their waitress' day, who happens to be a single mother of three boys.
(WBIR-Clinton) A waitress at a Clinton restaurant emailed a feel-good story to 10News. It was too good not to share.
Shirley Carr has worked at Golden Girls Restaurant for two years. Saturday, she took home the largest tip ever received at the popular eatery.
An unknown man and woman stopped by the restaurant Saturday. Carr was the couple's waitress. The man and woman noticed two women, who seemed to be mother and daughter, sitting nearby. They wanted to secretly pay for the two women's meal.
"He said, 'if you don't mind I'd like to have their check. I'd like to pay their bill but you have to promise not to tell who paid it'," the waitress said, speaking of the husband. "They paid the bill and left. Then, the woman asked me if she could pay her bill. I said, 'I'm sorry. I cannot give that to you. It has already been paid.' I thought she was going to cry."
The story does not end there. Shirley would clean the table and finish her shift. At the end of the day she was in for a big surprise.
"When I went to the register to get my tips, the man had left me five $20 bills and I was so happy," Carr said. "I am floored. I'm just extremely shocked they left $100."

"If the guy and the lady are watching, I just want to thank them for what they did. It was so sweet," Carr added.
There is one unbelievable twist. Before work, Shirley Carr posted a Facebook message encouraging people to give to others.
