On November 12, 2013, months of hard work came to an end during a live broadcast on Live at Five at 4 when adult clients of the Sertoma Center toured the six-bedroom duplex built just for them as part of the Labor of Love, a joint effort of WBIR, the Home Builders Association of Greater Knoxville and the Knoxville Area Association of Realtors.
The duplex built for the Sertoma Center houses six adults: three men and three women. Their homes were built specifically to suit their physical needs. The residents moved into the duplex in December 2013 and according to house manager, Tracey Meade-Turner, they are making themselves at home.
Turner gave us a tour of the homes where residents James, Jerry, Jonathan, Portia, Gina and Nancy now live.
The Sertoma Center has been serving adults with intellectual disabilities in the Knoxville area since 1961. If you would like to help, visit www.sertoma.com
