Instead of heading to the beach for spring break, these college students are lending a helping hand.
Rachel is a student at Carson Newman University and has chosen to spend her spring break serving those in need.
"I've always just wanted to use my gifts and talents to love the people around me and so it was just something that I was like yeah I want to do this."
Rachel is joined by 8 other students who are taking part in the SPOTS program or "Special Projects Other Than Summer". Rachel and her friends teamed up with WOW Urban Ministries, a group that connects volunteers with opportunities to serve across Knoxville.
This year SPOTS is composed of 11 trips and 170 volunteers. Groups are not only helping out in Knoxville, but are spread out across the country and as far as Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.
